a seemingly impossible duet

video work

Tubi Malcharzik, 2020

The 9 min-video score is dedicated to queer childhood experiences. Based on memories ranging from dressing up to drag performance, from privacy to publicness, the score reflects on power structures within memory processes: Childhoods are narrated and constructed by adults. Queer aspects are often lost in the process.

Which moments are not pasted into the family album? How can childhood be remembered queerly when the partners in the conversation use heteronormative language? How can one's own childhood be understood beyond the binary gender system? The videoscore invites spectators and listeners to synchronise and imagine a seemingly impossible duet that can never be captured in a photograph.
